NEW DELHI: As per Election Commission, West Bengal recorded a turnout of 41.11 percent till 11 AM in the first phase of the Assembly Elections on Thursday.
Notably, polling began at 7 am in 152 assembly constituencies across 16 districts, and till 9 am, 18.76 per cent of 3.60 crore voters cast the ballot.
In West Bengal, Paschim Mednipur district recorded a high turnout of 44.68 percent followed by Jhargam at 43.71 percent and Bankura at 43.22 percent.
The lowest turnout was recorded in Malda at 38.22 percent.
Voting is underway across 152 constituencies spread over 16 districts in Phase 1 of West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026.
It is learnt that more than 3.60 crore voters are deciding the fate of 1,478 candidates in a high-voltage opening phase.
In view of the casting ballot, RJD leader Manoj Jha said, “People are thrilled and excited. It should have been more, especially in West Bengal. However, when you disenfranchise millions of voters before the polls, then it is a worrying situation.”
