SRINAGAR: Terming the denial of prayers at historic Jamia Masjid as ‘sheer disappointment’, J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed ire and questioned the normalcy claims by security agencies on Saturday.
“In the light of Eid-Ul-Fitr, peaceful prayers have been offered across Jammu and Kashmir. However, unfortunately, once again, Eid prayers have not been allowed in the historical Jamia Masjid of Srinagar. I feel very sad for this,” CM Omar said.
CM added such decisions need to be reconsidered, and said that restrictions at the largest mosque of city raise questions of normalcy claimed by the security agencies.
CM Omar Abdullah categorically stated there is disconnect between ground situation and assessment of law enforcement bodies.
“The security agencies repeatedly say that the situation is normal but what kind of normalcy is this that worshippers are stopped for Eid prayers in the largest mosque of Srinagar,” Omar raised concerns.
He further expressed hope that the authorities would review the decision.
