LONDON: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday outrightly ruled out British involvement in any US-led blockade of Strait of Hormuz asserting that London will not be pulled into conflict with Iran.
Starmer reiterated the commitment of UK to keeping lanes accessible devoid of any military tensions.
He said this as Iran threatened ports in Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman after US Central Command announced on Monday that it would begin blockading maritime traffic entering and exiting Iranian ports.
It is learnt that the blockade will be applied impartially to nations entering or departing Iranian ports, which will include Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.
Starmer emphasized that Britain has been constantly in touch with allies to keep the Strait of Hormuz open once the friendly relations between Iran and the US ease.
“Having the Strait open is foremost priority,” Starmer said.
